Cluttered Life? Tips to Keep Your Spaces Organized

The first thing you will want to see once you enter your front door is a clean and organized space. Our homes should be a haven where we can retreat to at the end of the day!

Having an organized house is important for creating a warm and inviting ambiance to your home. You do not want to turn your living room upside down to find the remote that you used last night. So how do you make sure that you organize things so that they are easy to find?

A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place

As a general rule, everything in your home should have a place where it can be kept and easily found. This means that any item that does not have its place should be discarded. We often hold on to items which we deem as sentimental, but when you look at them closely, you will find that they are just adding clutter to your space. Consider looking for other storage options such as the garage for sentimental items.

Add Extra Shelving to Your Rooms

Shelves help our spaces stay organized and tidy as they create an extra storage space for our items. You will be surprised by how much extra shelving will transform a place like a kitchen, closet, or garage. For those hard to reach shelves that are high up, consider installing a sliding ladder. Not only do they add to the aesthetics of a room, but they also provide a way for people of different heights to reach high shelves.

Throw Out What You Do Not Need

We tend to buy and hold onto many items over the years. To de-clutter your space and make you feel organized, throw out items you do not need. If you have a couple of dresses that you have not worn in the last year, throw them out! They are taking in precious closet space that could be used to store other important items.

Have a Set Cleaning Routine in Place

Having a schedule for cleaning and tiding different areas of the house can help you stay on top of things. For example, you can dedicate Mondays to vacuuming, Wednesdays to bathroom cleaning, and so on. We tend to focus on areas such as the living room and kitchen and might end up forgetting the guest room. Having a schedule will ensure that all rooms in the house are cleaned and kept clutter-free.

Reuse Kitchen Trays and Bowls to Store Jewelry

We all know how annoying it is when you cannot find one side of your pair of earrings. Storing small pieces like studs inside trays or bowls will make them very easy to find. Cute trays will also make your dresser look more appealing and add on to the decor of your room.

Buy Hooks for Different Rooms

Hooks help us add more storage space as you can fix them anywhere. Don’t have anywhere to store your pans and pots? Consider buying strong metallic hooks you can fix to cabinets and hang them there. Hooks also come in handy in the bathroom as you can use them to hang towels and storage baskets.

Utilize Your Walls

Did you know you can use your walls to create extra storage space? You can consider hanging your ironing board on the wall once you are done. You can also store exercise equipment such as stretching bands on the walls to make them easy to find. You can also re-purpose a magnetic knife holder by sticking it on the kid’s bedroom wall and; storing metallic toys on them. This will keep them off the floor and prevent ugly accidents. There is nothing as painful as stepping on your child’s toy car as you are going about your duties.

We must live in clean and tidy spaces to function optimally. Studies have shown that living in a cluttered space contributes to added stress levels. We want to have a place of our own that is clean and uncluttered. Tidying up your space will make you spend more time at home and fall in love with it.
