I’m Dreaming! Tour the Perfect American Residence

Here is a little residential eye candy to start off the week – a stunning Lake Bluff home that kind of reminds me of the homes we saw on Desperate Housewives! It’s just perfect from the lawn to the trees, windows, and shingles. It is a little girly but I have to admit the lifestyle at this home does come off a little surreal. The landscaping was done very well and the choice of trees for the property was dead-on. The large trees in the foreground are Aristocrat pears that are fairly quick growers and provided lots of shade and greenery throughout the year. The home was painted in plain gray and white but what makes it stand out is the pretty pink flowers framing the balcony and a little around the patio. Who knew a few flowers could bring in so much color?

The French Manor – A Posh Style of Living

Today I’m featuring a little architectural eye candy with a few gorgeous French manor houses. If I could custom build my house from scratch, it would definitely look like one of these fantastic homes! A great characteristic all of these homes have is the floor length windows with a balcony – so chic! Don’t think you have to have a mansion to live like a French goddess; most of these homes are solely based on style. A keen eye for design and a few architectural elements with have you saying “bonjour” to your neighbors before you know it!

Since most of us would love to enjoy the spring season but live in city dwellings, growing your own garden can be a little tricky. With these few tips your balcony garden will be flourishing in no time! The choice is yours whether you want to grow flowers, fruit, or vegetables.

  • Make the most of your limited space and use every surface including walls and railings
  • Install a screen or wall if your balcony is exposed to lots of wind
  • Check how much sun exposure your balcony gets and how much will suit your plants
  • Use pots and hanging baskets to maximize your balcony space
  • Use lightweight leak-proof pots made from plastic or wood
  • For dwarf trees, shrubs, or vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes, use 5 gallon pots. To grow beets, carrots and peppers, use 2 gallon pots
