Home Tour: Alex Papachristidis’s New York Wonder

Another New York designer to grace our website this month (it’s not intentionally!) is Alex Papachristidis who grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This super outgoing designer was a born artist – his default playground used to be the grand halls of the Metropolitan Museum of art, where his mother brought him for his weekend entertainment. Accompanying his mother to many operas in New York, Paris, and Italy probably explains his vast décor ideas when designing for himself or for clients.

His New York home is stunning and features a lot of custom pieces such as the sectional in Schumacher velvet which can retail for $1,000 a yard! The exquisite flooring is what caught my eye; which looks to be regular strip hardwood with a hand painted design. Definitely something to keep in mind the next time I decide to re-do my flooring!

NY Dream: What it’s Like Living in the Plaza Hotel

Hotel living is sure a luxury throughout New York; just ask Nicole Hanley Mellon who has recently taken up residence at the famous Plaza Hotel. Nicole with her husband Mathew Mellon moved into their new space just as she was six months pregnant with her first child. The couple didn’t have much time for construction so they took some big ‘no, no’ short cuts: like painting over wallpaper, installing carpet flooring throughout, and even pulling leftover furniture from her parent’s basement! Who knew breaking all the rules could look so good! One thing I share in common with Nicole is her love for unique art. I can’t get over that gorgeous cheetah art she has hung up over her sofa – it’s impeccable!

Celebrity Home: Diane Von Furstenberg’s Manhattan Penthouse

This New York penthouse is a far cry from Elton John’s Los Angeles home I featured the other day. A little more funky and laid back, Diane’s interiors feel so intensely alive and super comfortable that makes you want to sink in. Books and photographs cover ever space of the penthouse, and some walls are covered in inspiring words such as JOY, WISDOM, and TRANSFORMATION.

She loves using lips and hearts as a theme but disapproves collecting since people can become “prisoners of their possessions”. Lets take a tour of this fashionista’s little hideout away from bright lights, and the catwalk.
