Hidden behind gates in the Hollywood Hills stands this 1935 Mediterranean home which looks more like a heavenly oasis to us! Being a big fan of Mediterranean décor made me fall in love with this home instantly – especially with the gorgeous outdoor patio and landscaping. This design originated in the countries north of the Mediterranean Sea such as Spain, Greece, and Italy. Today, it is usually referred to as “Spanish modern” and ranges from completely functional to extremely formal. Here’s how Mediterranean style breaks down:

Colors – Usually represent those of the sea and the sky such as warm terracotta, lavender, and yellow.

Tile – Mosaic tiles are used on floors or on the kitchen back splash. These tiles can become super expensive, so an easy way to get the look is by stenciling mosaic borders on floors, walls, or furniture.

Accessories – Wrought-iron light fixtures, bronze urns, heavy wooden furniture, Persian carpets, iron fireplace screens, and floral cushions.

Textures – To bring Mediterranean style to your home hand-rub layers of paint and glaze onto plaster or sand-textured walls. This technique works great on adding visual depth to your walls and can actually even be mimicked on drywall. To get the look on drywall, simply use tinted drywall compound and colored beeswax.
