Get Ready Now – Exciting Hues for a New Years Home Office Makeover

New Year, new you! Let’s start off 2013 in style with a glamorous home office makeover. Not only are you going to feel better but you will be more productive and focused with your work and life. My home office on the other hand is looking a little glum and needs some quick sprucing up for 2013!

I’m hoping to put together something trendy and sophisticated yet keep it chic and refreshing for next year. I’ve decided to bring in some bright colors that are energetic and lively. The first few things I’m looking to change are my blinds and swapping them for perky orange sheer curtains. I’m making over my ottoman in orange to match and installing some hot gold studs with gold Greek key trim. Last Minute Christmas Ideas – Try Lemons and Oranges

Still haven’t found a theme for your Christmas décor? Get yourself over to the nearest grocery store and stock up on nothing other than mandarin oranges and lemons! Use thumb tacks to decorate them and attach patterned ribbons to hang them up on your tree or garland. Pair them up with ornaments in matching colors like burnt orange, taupe, and gold. To tie the whole look together wrap up your gifts with ribbons in citrus hues and paper. Your guests will think you’ve planned this all winter!

DIY Friday: Smells of the Season – Easy Christmas Potpourri Mix

Give your home a heavenly holiday smell this season with an easy evergreen, cinnamon, orange, and spice stove top potpourri mix. This lovely aroma lingers throughout your home and greets your guests with the most wonderful scents of the season. I love to use homemade gifts like these to give away as gifts to friends and family. What’s even better is that it’s so easy to make and super cheap! Check out the recipe below:

Holiday Stove Top Potpourri Mix

  • One whole orange peel
  • ½ cup cranberries
  • 1 Tbsp. whole cloves
  • 3 sticks of cinnamon
  • Pinch of grated nutmeg

Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and fill the pan with water. Place on the smallest burner of the stove on the lowest setting. Refill water as needed. Don’t let the water completely evaporate and refill it when you turn it on. Voila!

BDB Tip: One mix can stay good for weeks and even if it turns brown from heating, it continues to smell wonderful.
