Make Your Dining Room Burst with Energy!

When we think “bursting with energy” we think bright, bold, big, and beautiful! A dining room has got to make an lasting impression, especially if you have tons of guests over or if you have an open concept layout and your dining room is in full view. This space designed by Todd Alexander Romano screams “look over here!” and just calls for attention. A huge pineapple smack in the middle of the table makes an interesting conversation piece, and the lime green dining chairs actually works well with the eggplant purple walls. To spice up the whole look, Todd gave us a hint of zebra peaking out from the teeny tiny bench at the side. What a look!

DIY Friday: How to Reupholster a Louis XVI Chair

Turning flea-market finds into treasures is a dream job I could do for the rest of my life – the satisfaction I get from turning junk into great works of art is utter fulfillment. Since a lot of you probably have old furniture you would like to upholster but don’t know where to start, I have put together a little guide to help you get started. It’s not even that difficult to do, with a little creativity and patience you can get your old furniture back in style for 2013.

Louis XVI chairs can be very expensive on the market, especially upholstered in damask fabric or velvet, and if topped off with nail head studs the prices can skyrocket through the roof! Take matters into your own hands and do it yourself – exactly the way you want to! Check out this easy DIY I came across from Country Living:

Ryan Benyi

Step 1: Remove the old upholstery and any tacks or staples from the frame.

Step 2: Do the “eight-way hand-tie” technique for your springs.

Step 3: With a staple gun apply fox edge and buffer between the frame and the padding.

Step 4: After applying a layer of duke cotton, blue foam, and Dacron, apply your fabric.

Step 5: Use hot glue to secure the double piping.

And… voila you are done!

Home Tour: Alex Papachristidis’s New York Wonder

Another New York designer to grace our website this month (it’s not intentionally!) is Alex Papachristidis who grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This super outgoing designer was a born artist – his default playground used to be the grand halls of the Metropolitan Museum of art, where his mother brought him for his weekend entertainment. Accompanying his mother to many operas in New York, Paris, and Italy probably explains his vast décor ideas when designing for himself or for clients.

His New York home is stunning and features a lot of custom pieces such as the sectional in Schumacher velvet which can retail for $1,000 a yard! The exquisite flooring is what caught my eye; which looks to be regular strip hardwood with a hand painted design. Definitely something to keep in mind the next time I decide to re-do my flooring!
