Home Tour: Alex Papachristidis’s New York Wonder

Another New York designer to grace our website this month (it’s not intentionally!) is Alex Papachristidis who grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This super outgoing designer was a born artist – his default playground used to be the grand halls of the Metropolitan Museum of art, where his mother brought him for his weekend entertainment. Accompanying his mother to many operas in New York, Paris, and Italy probably explains his vast décor ideas when designing for himself or for clients.

His New York home is stunning and features a lot of custom pieces such as the sectional in Schumacher velvet which can retail for $1,000 a yard! The exquisite flooring is what caught my eye; which looks to be regular strip hardwood with a hand painted design. Definitely something to keep in mind the next time I decide to re-do my flooring!

2013 Decor Trends – Best Print: Retro Botanicals

Expect to see this flowery trend for a while as we have been seeing it everywhere from our walls to our upholstering and even flooring! These botanical textiles and wallpaper patterns inspired by the 1950s have been officially brought back to the 21st century, some even in shiny metallic finishes. Designers are pairing up the sweet metallic wallpaper with neutral yet glossy surfaces and burnished hardware. Others that have matte surfaces do well with antiqued wooden furniture. Try out a retro botanical wallpaper in any space in your home that needs a little pick-me-up!

Granny Chic – Who Knew This Would Ever be in Style?

We all have childhood memories of Granny’s house and her perfectly decorated floral pillows, afghan blankets, quilts, tassels, doilies and fringed furniture. Who knew interior designers would take cue from this tacky style and bring it to designer homes throughout America? This style isn’t entirely shabby chic – it’s where shabby chic once originated from. So let’s take a look at some of the good, the bad, and the ugly of Granny chic. What do you all think, would you give it a go?
