DIY Friday: How to Build a City Garden on Your Balcony

Since most of us would love to enjoy the spring season but live in city dwellings, growing your own garden can be a little tricky. With these few tips your balcony garden will be flourishing in no time! The choice is yours whether you want to grow flowers, fruit, or vegetables.

  • Make the most of your limited space and use every surface including walls and railings
  • Install a screen or wall if your balcony is exposed to lots of wind
  • Check how much sun exposure your balcony gets and how much will suit your plants
  • Use pots and hanging baskets to maximize your balcony space
  • Use lightweight leak-proof pots made from plastic or wood
  • For dwarf trees, shrubs, or vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes, use 5 gallon pots. To grow beets, carrots and peppers, use 2 gallon pots
