Is This Home a little too Crowded? – You be The Judge!

I came across this wonderful little home in Scotts Valley designed by Shannon Malone and thought, wow this is unique! The home surely is one of a kind, but it seems to me that there is way too much going on! Are the different patterns, and overstuffed rooms clashing with one another or is it just me? I would have personally toned down a lot of the accessories and tried to keep them minimal. What do you think is this a décor overload?

Color Blocking – What it’s all about!

Looking for a simple way to refresh your home for 2013? Try color blocking! That’s right, it’s not only for the fashionistas out there and their wardrobes; this year color blocking has taken a whole new spin from our floors to the ceiling. So how does it really work? The same way you would with your wardrobe, picking colors that go well together in the color wheel and scattering them throughout your home.

You can practice this technique with vibrant colored walls, bright works of art, and over-sized statement cushions. Even brightly upholstered chairs can do the trick or framed wallpaper can work well to create color blocking against neutral walls. A fuzzy bright rug is also welcome and guaranteed to bring in loads of color and energy along with it!
