Give your home a twist this weekend by experimenting with a fabulous new design trend, Malachite stone finish. Malachite looks great on just about any surface: coffee tables, walls, desks, and even lamps! You can easily get the look at home with this simple DIY tutorial on using faux stone finishing techniques. Keep reading for full instructions…
How to Faux Malachite Finish
Required:
- Pale blue/green base coat
- Emerald green glaze and paint
- Piece of cardboard
- High gloss finish
- Gold leaf paint
- Fan brush and regular paint brush
1.) Find a surface you want to cover in Malachite and apply a base coat of pale blue/green.
2.) Mix in 3 parts glaze with 1 part paint in a deep emerald green. To make the color darker, add black or blue and yellow to brighten.
3.) Brush the paint onto the area and quickly remove it with torn pieces of cardboard, mimicking the wiggly Malachite curves. You can also use a fan brush for this technique.
4.) Keep paining on more glaze and removing. To soften the hard lines and thick edges, use a brush and lightly tap the surface to flatten it.
5.) Once dry, coat your whole surface with a high gloss finish. For the brass, a gold leaf finish was used to give a more antiqued gilt look. Voila!

Hi Tai!
The paint is Glidden’s G14- Almost Aqua for $1.99 and I’m pretty sure the lamp was ceramic with brass. Hope this helps!
